This project began at the very start, a complete knockdown and rebuild with a project home builder, requiring site preparation well before construction could begin.
Change of Scenery Landscapes was engaged prior to the builder commencing to install concrete sleeper retaining walls and fencing to two sides of the property, stabilising the land that had been excavated to the new levels required for the build. Steel H-beam posts were drilled into solid rock, creating an exceptionally strong foundation for the walls, paired with a correctly engineered drainage system to ensure their long-term integrity.
Once the home was complete, we returned to finish the rear landscape, constructing further retaining walls across the back of the house to establish a walkway, firepit area, alfresco extension, and a raised lawn. Every decision was made with the client's lifestyle in mind, balancing access, entertaining flow, and everyday liveability.
Council DA requirements called for basic planting for certification, but this was our opportunity to go further, enhancing the design with gardens and spaces genuinely suited to how the clients live. A council requirement to maintain permeable land for stormwater infiltration meant a solid concrete driveway was not an option, so blue metal gravel was selected and neatly edged with paver garden edging, a practical and attractive solution.
The overall scheme leans into low maintenance living, with gravel and mulched garden beds, and a predominantly native planting palette. The clients were thrilled with the result, a beautiful, easy-care garden they will enjoy for many years to come.
