Banksia WOODFORD

December 2016

After living with the same backyard for the past 20+ years, this family needed an inspirational backyard to enjoy. First and foremost on the client's wish list was to maximise space and to create an over sized entertainment area suitable for large parties.

Our designer seized an opportunity to regain the city views by removing some the boundary trees near the entertainment space, which was always going to be the centre piece of the entire design.

Retaining walls were constructed with solid sandstone with steps which led you through to the remaining backyard. The entertainment area was paved with a polished concrete looking paver, laid on a solid concrete base. Sandstone was also clad onto brick creating a new open fire and chimney, allowing this mountains garden to be enjoyed with a glass of wine all year round, even through those cold winter nights.

The remaining backyard was sculpted to provide a flat lawn area leading to the teenagers retreat, a sandstone clad circle bench seat and fire pit.

The gardens were planted mostly using a mix of natives throughout with an addition of boundary fruit trees and a fern grove which was centered around one of the only trees left on site, a beautifully shaped "old man Banksia".
